Local Release Supervision in Middlesex
Middle Peninsula Local Probation and Pretrial Services covers Middlesex and nearby Middle Peninsula jurisdictions. It investigates people booked at MPRSC to give the court or magistrate information relevant to a bond decision. It also supervises qualifying local pretrial and post-trial cases after a person is outside the jail.
This program is separate from VADOC Probation and Parole District 5. A bonded defendant reporting to local pretrial services has left physical MPRSC custody but is not a state parolee. A local probation case likewise comes from a local court disposition, not a Virginia Parole Board grant. The exact order and signed conditions control.
Confirm a Local Pretrial Release
The official program page explains the investigation and supervision roles, but it does not publish a person-search database. Verification therefore requires several records with different purposes.
- Check the MPRSC current roster only for present regional-jail custody and record the booking clues.
- Ask MPRSC for the existing release or custody-movement record, including date, time, disposition, and destination.
- Obtain the bond or release order from the magistrate or correct Middlesex court.
- Review signed local pretrial conditions to identify the program, reporting instructions, and case number.
- Contact the appropriate local program office for routing or instructions on obtaining the person's own record.
- Return to the court for any later change, violation order, disposition, or termination of supervision.
A court order authorizes release, while the MPRSC record supplies the processed physical departure. Local pretrial enrollment corroborates community release with conditions, but its start date should not be substituted for the jail exit time.
Pretrial and Local Probation Records
Each source answers a narrow question. Keeping them separate prevents a bond release from being mislabeled as parole and prevents a supervision record from being presented as a jail discharge certificate.
| Record | What it shows | What it does not prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| MPRSC movement record | Processed departure time and disposition | The later outcome of the criminal case |
| Bond or release order | Legal authority and terms for pretrial release | The exact time jail staff completed release |
| Pretrial conditions | Local reporting and supervision duties | State parole or complete discharge |
| Judgment | Disposition, active and suspended time, and probation | Every later modification or actual exit time |
| Termination or revocation order | Later change in the local supervision term | Status in another custody system |
Use the case number, exact name, booking date, and court level to match documents. Middlesex felony cases can begin with preliminary proceedings in General District Court and move to Circuit Court, so one case may require both court histories.
Middle Peninsula Office Contacts
The program lists two offices. Confirm which one handles the specific Middlesex case before travel or sending papers. Published hours for both are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
| Gloucester office | 7400 Justice Drive, Gloucester, VA 23061; 804-693-3088 |
|---|---|
| Tappahannock office | 305 Prince Street, Tappahannock, VA 22560; 804-445-0600 |
| Published hours | Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. |
| Program role | Pretrial investigation and qualifying local pretrial or post-trial supervision |
| Public web lookup | None documented |
For physical release information, call MPRSC at 804-758-2338. For a bond order or case outcome, use the applicable court. The program office should not be asked to recreate records held by the jail or clerk.
Middlesex Magistrate Bond Releases
Middlesex magistrates provide bail hearings around the clock and can set terms and issue jail releases. Middle Peninsula Pretrial may investigate an MPRSC booking and supply information for the bond decision. This is a local bond-release trail, distinct from the state parole process.
Bond detail on the current MPRSC page can help identify the case, but it is not proof that the bond was posted or that release processing finished. Obtain the bond papers, then pair them with the MPRSC departure record. If pretrial supervision was ordered, the signed conditions identify where and when the person must report.
A later dismissal, plea, trial, or sentence changes the court case but does not rewrite the earlier release time. Report the physical exit, the legal authorization, and the eventual disposition as separate dated facts.
Local Probation After Disposition
Post-trial local probation serves qualifying local cases after the court enters judgment. The judgment may show active jail time, suspended time, probation, fines or costs, and other conditions. A later modification, violation, revocation, or termination must be checked in the same court history.
State probation is different. When a VADOC locator result shows probation and routes the person through District 5, use the state supervision path. When the order and program papers identify Middle Peninsula Local Probation, use this local path. The District 5 page explains the state office without blending the two systems.
Neither a planned supervision end date nor a missed locator result proves that duties ended. Seek the official termination, discharge, or court order appropriate to the program.
MPRSC Release Versus Transfer
The regional jail's current list contains Full Name, Age, Race, Sex, and Admit Date, with detail fields for charges, court, bond, agencies, and a booking image. It has no release-date field or historical archive. When a name disappears, the person may have bonded out, transferred to VADOC, moved to another jail or hospital, completed time, or left for another recorded reason.
Local supervision is relevant only when the papers support that route. A transfer to VADOC is continuing state custody. A transfer to another county remains jail custody. A Virginia Jail VINE event may report the departure, but a release or transfer notice still needs confirmation from MPRSC and the next custodian.
Middlesex Court Verification
Middlesex General District Court at 73 Bowden Street handles misdemeanors and preliminary felony proceedings. Its clerk can be reached at 804-758-4312, with published hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Circuit Court uses the same street address but a separate clerk and P.O. box; it handles felony adjudication, sentencing, and de novo appeals and can be reached at 804-758-5317.
J&DR hearings occur in Saluda while the clerk's office is at 7400 Justice Drive in Gloucester. Juvenile information is not public online. That absence must not be treated as proof that no case or release exists. Ask the proper clerk for the final order and any later supervision action that is publicly available.
The Middlesex release-record guide lays out the broader chain from MPRSC to VINE, court, local supervision, and VADOC. For this program, preserve the label “local pretrial” or “local probation” found in the actual papers.
Local Release Record Requests
Send the jail part of a request to MPRSC because the regional Authority operates the facility. Identify the person, booking or case number if known, approximate admission date, and a narrow range. Ask for the existing intake, release or custody-movement record and the release date, time, type, and destination.
Virginia FOIA ordinarily provides five working days for a response. The office may produce records, redact or withhold protected material with a stated basis, say records cannot be found, refer the request when another custodian is known, or invoke a lawful extension. An agency need not create a new list. Ask for electronic copies and a cost estimate.
For court records, request the bond order, judgment, modification, revocation, or termination. For program records, ask which existing supervision or discharge document is available to the person or an authorized requester. Matching each request to its custodian preserves the difference between release, court authority, and local supervision.
A VINE event can add a signal after MPRSC reports departure, but it remains custodian-specific. “Release” can include movement to another jail or VADOC. When local pretrial terms should begin, confirm the community destination in the MPRSC record and reporting duties in the signed order.
Dates may differ because the magistrate authorizes bond, MPRSC processes departure, and the first program report are separate steps. The jail time answers when physical custody ended. The order answers why departure was allowed. The program record answers when local oversight began.
