Check District 5 Supervision

VADOC Probation and Parole District 5–Gloucester is the state community-supervision office serving Middlesex County. It is not a jail or prison in Middlesex, and it is not the same program as Middle Peninsula Local Probation and Pretrial Services. A person may have left physical incarceration yet remain subject to state probation or parole through District 5. Verify that status through the statewide VADOC locator, signed conditions, the sentencing court, and appropriate office confirmation, while keeping the jail exit date separate from the supervision start or discharge date.

District 5 Release Supervision

District 5 serves Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, King and Queen, King William, and West Point from its Gloucester office. VADOC administers the supervision, while the Virginia Parole Board decides parole for eligible cases and courts impose probation. The office is a supervision location, not a detention facility and not an unrestricted public database.

A VADOC locator entry showing probation or parole supports a precise finding: physical incarceration has ended and state supervision continues. It does not mean the sentence and all legal duties are fully discharged. The start of supervision can follow a prison release, a VADOC community-corrections placement, or a court order. The underlying papers determine which path applies.

Do not merge dates. Jail or prison departure, supervision start, court judgment, and final discharge can all occur on different dates.

How to Verify District 5 Status

Start at the VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator, which includes district-office supervisees as well as incarcerated people. Its daily update and accuracy warning mean a result is a lead to verify, not a permanent historical certificate.

  1. Use the seven-digit DOC ID when known, or enter the first three letters of the first name and full last name.
  2. Begin without optional location, race, gender, or age filters, then compare the returned identity.
  3. Read status and location together to distinguish a prison, a regional jail, CCAP, probation, or parole.
  4. Compare the result with the signed Conditions of Probation or Conditions of Parole and the release order.
  5. Check the sentencing court judgment for the supervision term and any later modification, revocation, or termination order.
  6. Call District 5 for routing questions or instructions on how the individual may obtain their own record.

No locator result does not prove discharge. The locator focuses on current custody and supervision, so written VADOC status information and court records become important after all supervision ends.

District 5 Parole and Probation

Parole is a conditional release from a state prison sentence when the person is eligible and the Virginia Parole Board grants it. Probation is supervision imposed by a court, often with active incarceration suspended in whole or part. Both can place a Middlesex person under District 5, but their source and papers differ.

Local pretrial supervision is a third category. A person who bonds out from MPRSC and reports to Middle Peninsula Local Probation and Pretrial has not thereby become a state parolee. Use the name of the actual program in every status statement.

District 5 Records and Contact

The office may confirm service-area routing or explain its record process, subject to privacy and disclosure rules. It should not be portrayed as a public name-search line. For broad state status or date records, contact VADOC central records. For the legal term and later changes, use the court that entered the order.

A narrow inquiry should identify the person with a DOC number when available and ask for the specific public status or date sought. VADOC OP 050.1 identifies custody or parole status and certain calculated-date facts available at inquiry, while other correctional material may be exempt.

Parole Board Decisions and Release

The Virginia Parole Board monthly decision reports record completed decisions. A report may show VADOC number, name, eligibility category, review dates, court, offense, sentence, a Grant or Not Grant result, and reasons stated by the Board. The Board does not provide pending case-status updates.

A grant is not an exit timestamp. VADOC must still prepare the release and check detainers, warrants, court orders, uncalculated sentences, discipline, and civil holds. A detainer can turn the event into a transfer. Use the VADOC release record for the completed departure and the Board report for the decision.

Ordinary discretionary parole was abolished for most felonies committed on or after January 1, 1995. Older offenses and statutory exceptions remain, including categories described by the Board. Eligibility merely marks a review point. It does not assure a favorable vote or release.

District 5 Violations and Absconding

A reported violation can lead to investigation, a warrant or capias, a court or Board proceeding, and possible return to custody. Absconder language means alleged noncompliance with supervision. It does not erase the fact that the person was physically released earlier, and it does not by itself establish the outcome of a later hearing.

No Middlesex-specific public absconder list was identified. VADOC most-wanted material is a separate fugitive channel, not a complete District 5 roster. For a claimed warrant, use the issuing court or law-enforcement source. For revocation, obtain the Board or court action and then check the new custodian.

Middlesex State and Local Supervision

Middlesex has two distinct post-custody paths. District 5 handles state supervision. Middle Peninsula Local Probation and Pretrial conducts pretrial investigations for regional-jail bookings and supervises qualifying local cases. A bonded defendant may report locally without any VADOC status. The local program page explains that route.

MPRSC also lists electronic incarceration, work release, education, Life Skills, recovery, wellness, and related jail programs. Those programs may affect how time is served or prepare a person for return, but public program descriptions do not establish eligibility, acceptance, or continued services for one person. Verify the actual order and agency record.

When District 5 Supervision Ends

Final discharge must be proved by the record that ends supervision, not by a missing locator entry. Compare the original conditions, the term in the judgment or parole papers, credits or modifications recognized by the responsible authority, and any termination or discharge document. A planned end date can change after violation proceedings or another court order.

Keep each finding scoped. “Released from VADOC to District 5 parole” means physical release with state supervision. “Probation terminated by the court” addresses the court-ordered term. “Fully discharged according to VADOC” should be used only when VADOC supports that conclusion. This language is more useful and accurate than calling every person outside a jail simply released.

District 5 Notification Channels

Virginia's notifications split at the local and state line. Virginia Jail VINE covers MPRSC and can send local release or transfer events. When a person enters VADOC, that enrollment does not move automatically. VADOC uses NAAVI as a separate post-conviction notification system for eligible victims and immediate family members.

NAAVI can give qualifying registrants notice of advanced or actual release, transfer, parole events, return to custody, and other listed changes. VADOC Victim Services offers assistance at 804-674-3243 or 1-800-560-4292 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This restricted service is not open enrollment for the general public.

A notice is evidence of the event reported by its source, not a substitute for release papers. Delivery can lag, and an advance notice remains prospective. Confirm urgent custody questions with VADOC or the custodian.

For parole, the Board's meeting calendar may show deliberation and monthly reports may show a completed result. Neither supplies the final prison-door time. VADOC staff still check warrants, detainers, uncalculated sentences, court orders, discipline, and civil holds. A receiving detainer means custody continues elsewhere.

For probation, the Middlesex sentencing court remains central. Obtain the judgment, any later modification or revocation, and an order ending probation when available. District 5 status should agree with that court trail, though the sources may update on different dates. Keep the DOC number and court case number with each dated note so similarly named people are not confused.
